What is our order process?

We can't build a custom chair if we don't know the unique story behind the one who will be pushing it.

All of our wheelchairs start with a conversation about you—not measurements, not parts lists, not features. We need to know your story first. What do you want to do in your new wheelchair? Where do you want to go, and how do you want to get there? How do you transfer? What have you loved (or hated) about chairs you've pushed before? What can't you do right now that you want to do, and why is your current setup holding you back?

Our goal isn't to fit you into one of our wheelchairs. Our goal is to build you a tool that uniquely addresses your needs—because your story is what shapes the chair.

The Process

Step 1: We talk. We listen. We learn your story.
This is where we figure out what type of chair you need—CrossFit, basketball, tennis, off-road, everyday sport—and what features matter to you. Carbon fiber everything? Gold plating? (Yes, we've been asked. Yes, it can be done. No, it's not cheap.) But more importantly, we're learning who you are and how you push, because that's what informs every decision we make next.

Step 2: Price and timeline.
Based on your story and the features we've discussed, we'll give you a price and estimated timeline. This lets you decide if you want to move forward. If yes, we'll schedule a fitting and get your measurements—and we'll help you along the way to ensure everything is being measured properly. If not, we thank you for your time and for trusting us with your story.

Step 3: Design.
Now we get on the computer and custom-design your wheelchair—not a template, not a stock frame. Yours. This is where we dial in the geometry based on your measurements and how you push, then move into the details: custom footplates designed by you, powder coat colors that match your style, backrests that support how you sit and move, cushions built for your pressure distribution and activity level, and so much more. Every element is selected and spec'd with your story in mind, so the final design is as unique as you are.

Step 4: Down payment.
You tell us if you want to pay 100% upfront or split it 50/50, and we'll create one or two electronic invoices you can pay from. If you choose the 50/50 option, we'll start building your chair after the first invoice is paid and you've signed your wheelchair specifications contract. The second invoice will be due right before delivery (if you're local) or at the time of shipping. There's an additional fee of 5% of the total invoice for any order using the 50/50 split pay option.

Step 5: We build your wheelchair.
As we do, you'll get pictures and updates on the build. We'll also check in with you on the small details—the ones that make it your chair, not just a chair.

Step 6: Delivery.
We'll let you know in advance when your wheelchair will be ready so you can schedule pickup or shipping. Any remaining balance is due before delivery.

  • 1. Built by Users, For Users

We're wheelchair users designing for wheelchair users – we get it because we live it. Every chair is crafted with real-world experience and insider knowledge of what actually matters on the court, track, or street. When pushers design for pushers, you get performance that insurance companies and big manufacturers just can't match.

  • 2. Ultra-Lightweight Rigid Performance

Our all-welded rigid design means every push transfers maximum energy to forward motion instead of wasting it on flex and noise. Less maintenance, quieter rides, and effortless pushing that lets you focus on living your life instead of fighting your equipment. Built tough but weighs light – because your chair should work with you, not against you.

  • 3. Insurance-Free Customization

Skip the paperwork, denials, and "standard options" – you're the boss here. We build exactly what YOU want, how YOU want it, without having to justify your choices to anyone else. True customization means getting the chair that fits your life, your sport, and your style perfectly.

FAQ

1. Why don't you accept insurance?

We choose not to work with insurance so you can get exactly the wheelchair you need. Insurance companies restrict your choices to basic, pre-approved options that might not work for your body or lifestyle. By paying directly, you skip all those limitations and get complete control over every detail - from measurements to features to colors. You end up with a wheelchair that's actually built for YOU, not what some insurance policy says you can have.

2. What's the real difference between your wheelchairs and insurance wheelchairs?

Insurance wheelchairs might be "free," but they authorize the cheapest parts available. Between your co-pay and necessary upgrades to get decent components, you'll spend $2-3k anyway - and you'll still end up with a bolt-together maintenance problem that wastes your energy through loose connections and flex.

Our all-welded construction eliminates those weak points completely. Every push transfers directly into motion instead of being lost through wobbly joints. Plus, our ultra-lightweight design means you use less energy to get around.

Spend a little more and get a custom-made Reckless chair that's built to maximize your energy and minimize maintenance time. When your wheelchair works efficiently and quietly, you spend your energy living your life instead of constantly fixing equipment.

3. How long does it take to make my new wheelchair?

Your custom wheelchair takes 10 weeks from contract to delivery. Here's the breakdown:

  • Week 1: Order parts & create your custom CAD design
  • Weeks 2-3: Manufacturing your frame
  • Weeks 4-5: Powder coating for durability
  • Weeks 6-7: Assembly and quality testing
  • Week 8-10: Final prep and shipping (1-2 days shipping time)

4. How can I do a fitting if I cannot come to your shop?

We offer remote fittings! We'll guide you through taking your own measurements with detailed instructions, or we can work with a local physical therapist We also provide video consultations to ensure everything is measured correctly. Many of our customers are located far from Houston, so we've perfected the remote fitting process to ensure your wheelchair fits perfectly.
